A few words on ‘infrastructure’ - Infrastructure is a code word used by politicians for funding being brought into a district, usually theirs, for a project. These projects are commonly referred to as ‘pork’. Applying the specifics of infrastructure, we get things such as Alaska’s ‘Bridge to Nowhere’. The definition of ‘need’ is the issue at hand here… if we eliminated the amount of ‘infrastructure’ spending that could be considered ‘pork’ it would be much easier to control the federal budget and deficits. Take a look at Senator Rand Paul’s yearly pronouncements of bad federal spending to get an idea what this is really all about, called the “Festivus report”. The link here is the latest edition, but Senator Paul has prepared these lists yearly for quite a while. They are an eye opening read.
